Organic growers are required to source organically produced seed. In addition, seeds that have been treated with non-organic pesticides cannot be used. These seeds are referred to as “genetically modified organisms” or “GMO,” and “genetically engineered organisms” or “GE,” and are not allowed in certified organic production.
